It has been announced by About Nigeria that OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) has named Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources as its president for 2015 – the first female President of OPEC.
According to sources, Alison-Madueke will be taking over from Libya’s Abdourhman Ataher Al-Ahirish, which will see her presidency last throughout the whole of 2015.
Diezani Alison-Madueke is Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources, being appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan in April 2010.
Collectively, 40 percent of the world’s oil is pumped out by OPEC, which consists of 12 countries. As part of a recent meeting in Vienna, Austria, the 12-member group debated about whether to change its daily output target from 30 million barrels per day, which it currently stands at.
